Each cozy cabin varies in accommodation size as some have multiple bedrooms, day beds and pull-out sofas. In addition, most of our lakefront cabins highlight a private porch facing the water! All bedding and linens provided.
Furnace Point Cabin Details
Each Cabin retains its original number from the time it was a summer camp (Camp Normandie). Cabins also have a unique name to honor the past. There is a rich history here at Furnace Point, starting with the actual Sisco Furnace. We want to preserve the historic story of the site here in Westport, New York while providing all the modern updates that guests can benefit from.
Next pages provide the details and select photos from each cabin.
Cabin 6A – Champlain
Up until 1969 this property was known as Camp Champlain and owned by a music teacher named Howard Earl Cleave. In fact, the Grammy Award-winning novelty song “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp) by Allan Sherman is based on the letters of complaint Allan received from his son Robert while Robert attended Camp Champlain in Westport!

Cabin 7 – Palisades
Named after the cliffed coast of the Split Rock Wilderness Area rising well over 100 feet above the lake, this cabin holds a special place in our hearts (we’ve dubbed it the “bridal suite” because of this!). Likely the best location on the property to hold your morning coffee will be on the private deck of the Palisades Cabin facing the sunrise. Looking for a better view? Grab a kayak and paddle north along the shoreline to view the magnificent cliffs, mottled with indigenous gray curly lichen (that has been growing for well over 100 years!). The Palisades are also a great spot for bird watching as they are a nesting ground for turkey vultures, American bald eagles, osprey and peregrine falcons.

Judge Reuben Whallon resided at "the Poplars" in Essex NY as he conducted business and manufacturing operations for several decades beginning in 1814. The bay was therefore called "Whallon's Bay", and the western part of the town of Essex was named "Whallonsburg."

South of our Northwest Bay you will find Bulwagga Bay of Port Henry - the hometown of our sister furnace! Princess Bulwagga lived with her Native American tribe on Coot Hill near Port Henry and drowned in the bay. Now Bulwagga Bay is known for many sightings of Champ - Lake Champlain's mythical monster. A large sign near the bay lists sightings from 1609 - 1990. The deepest part of Lake Champlain is a 400 foot deep trough nearby, so it makes sense to many that Champ lives here.

This unit’s private deck has great views of not only the bay but this towering structure.

With such production, this little hamlet employed nearly 100 individuals and played a significant role in the record high population of the town in 1850!
